Try before you buy

Just a quick post before I head off to sleep tonight.

I love the library for trying out cookbooks to see if they’re worth buying. And I’ve been trying a lot of low-carb cookbooks lately. This week it’s Karen Barnaby’s The Low-Carb Gourmet.  I’ve tried a couple of recipes with great success (Donald’s Awesome Chicken and Broccoli Casserole – my eldest loved the sauce; and the delicious and simple Pork Loin Steaks with Lemon Thyme Cream) and the book comes highly recommended by friends who hosted dinner a few nights ago and included a recipe from the book (Basic Cauli-flied “Rice”) which was so tasty I had to go back for seconds.

Barnaby is the executive chef at The Fish House in Stanley Park in Vancouver, so she clearly knows what she’s doing. I’m looking forward to cooking many more gems from this book, which is not only filled with great recipes, but also tips and tricks throughout, as well as a section in the introduction on low-carb grocery shopping.
